Job Summary: The purpose of this classification is to receive/process requests for emergency/non-emergency assistance and to dispatch law enforcement, fire, or other agency resources. Duties and responsibilities include receiving and prioritizing emergency calls, dispatching appropriate law enforcement, emergency personnel, serving as liaison between callers and emergency responders; operating computers and communications equipment, preparing documentation, maintaining records, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 2 months previous experience and/or training involving public safety dispatching, radio communications, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Requires possession and maintenance of valid 911 operator certification. Operation of national/state criminal information systems requires possession and maintenance of valid N.C.I.C., T.C.I.C., T.I.E.S., and/or N.L.E.T.S. Terminal Operator certification.  Typing and multi-tasking skills are a must.

Animal Care Specialist

Department: P.A.W.S. (Pet Adoption and Welfare Services)

Starting Salary: $24,165 - $25,942 (Commensurate with Experience)


Job Summary:  The purpose of this classification is to perform general/specialized work associated with providing effective and efficient animal control. Duties and responsibilities include cleaning of kennels, cages, and relate  d spaces in the animal holding areas and shelter; feeding and watering animals; inventory of all animals twice daily; supply inventory and maintenance; training new employees; and the overall care of impounded animals. Documents and responds to all inquiries, service requests, and comments received from the public to provide pertinent information on adoptions, ordinance requirements, spay/neuter questions, and any other type of general information. Reports to Animal Control Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED; and one (1) year of customer relations experience supplemented by two (2) months previous experience and/or training involving animal control or animal handling; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license. Must possess and maintain valid Euthanasia Certification. Must possess time management skills, including the capability to work productively in fast-paced environment, keep focus on several tasks at once, and be prepared for interruptions when needed to attend to more crucial matters. Must be able to effectively communicate knowledge and information to a non-technical audience. Must possess basic computer skills, including but not limited to word processing, email, and Internet.

Community Learning Instructor (State Certified Mathematics Instructor (certification 7-12)

Department: Community Learning Center

Salary:  Commensurate with experience and degree as stated in Rutherford County Board of Education salary schedule 



Job Summary:  The purpose of this classification is to plan, execute, coordinate, and teach material associated with educating/encouraging teenagers to become productive members of society.  Duties and responsibilities include planning lessons; preparing assignments and activities; providing education and instruction to students; counseling students and parents; maintaining discipline; preparing correspondence and reports; maintaining work areas; and performing other tasks as assigned. Reports to Community Learning Director.

Primary Functions:  Teach all math courses including but not limited to Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Bridge Math, Finance and other courses as required.  Give guidance to at -risk teens on learning life skills necessary in the work force and requirements for graduation.  Assist with state required testing.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree required:  Master’s Degree preferred in Education (or related field) required; preferred three (3) years experience in secondary education level instruction, working with at-risk youth in an educational environment (or related field).  Requires a State Mathematics Instructor certification 7-12. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Communications Officer I (Part-Time)

Hours:  PRN with variable schedule

Salary: $14.16- $15.21 hr / (Commensurate with Experience)




Job Summary:  The purpose of this classification is to receive/process requests for emergency/non-emergency assistance and to dispatch emergency medical, law enforcement, fire, or other agency resources. Duties and responsibilities include receiving and prioritizing emergency calls, dispatching appropriate law enforcement, emergency personnel, serving as liaison between callers and emergency responders; operating computers and communications equipment, preparing documentation, maintaining records, and performing additional tasks as assigned. Ambulance Service assignment reports to Communications Supervisor. 


Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 2 months previous experience and/or training involving public safety dispatching, radio communications, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. It may require possession and maintenance of valid Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification, 911 Operator certification, and/or CPR/First Aid certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

School Patrol Officer

Department: Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department

Salary: $17.00 / hours

Job Summary:  The School Traffic Safety Patrol person is responsible for the safe and orderly flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic within a designated school zone within Rutherford County.  This position is considered part-time and seasonal; therefore, School Traffic Safety Patrol employees do not receive any employee fringe benefits.  The working hours will be determined by the opening and closing times of the school to which the employee is assigned.  The employee will be responsible through the chain of command to the Sheriff.  This position is classified as Non-Exempt for the purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act as having no significant occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and as Safety Sensitive.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age.  Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.  Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any state or federal or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.
